Long before it became widely known through film, the Old Arnold Estate was a working Rhode Island farm. The center-chimney farmhouse standing today was built in 1736, making it one of the older documented structures in Burrillville and Harrisville. Generations of the Arnold family and later owners lived on and worked this land.
Today, the house is preserved and opened for guided tours that focus on its documented history, its architecture, and the folklore that has grown up around it over nearly three centuries. Our goal is to present that history honestly — separating what is documented from what is legend — while protecting the physical property for future generations.
